Tuesday, October 19 (E9)

Today's Objective: Students will continue pre-writing their Q1 final projects, and students will differentiate between sentences and fragments.

Today's SAT Word: Differentiate (v.)

To point out the differences between two (or more) items. To contrast.

"In today's class, we differentiated sentences from sentence fragments."

Today's Soundtrack: "Say" by John Mayer

We have chosen this song today because it echoes a repeating chorus that you should "say what you need to say." Since we are studying sentence structure and learning how to write our very own 600-word compositions, this is a great musical reminder of the job we need to do.

Today's Warm-Up Question:

What CHALLENGE do you think you will be writing about for your Q1 Final Project?

Be sure to consider:

1) WHAT the challenge was
2) HOW you responded to the challenge
3) WHAT you learned from the experience

REMINDER: Quarter 1 summative writing project guidelines are available for pickup IN CLASS.

A digital copy of these guidelines is available for download here.

Tonight's Homework:

Continue working on your Q1 final compositions. Remember:
  • Completed compositions must be submitted BOTH by printed hard copy and by e-mail to john.meehan@pgcps.org no later than FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29 at 5 p.m.
  • YOU MUST submit your composition BOTH as a hard copy AND as an e-mail by the assigned due date. Failure to submit EITHER one or the other will result in an automatic 50% ("E") grade for the project.
  • This project will count for roughly 25% of your overall assessment grade for the marking period.
  • There will be no extensions given on this project.
