Thursday, September 23 (E9)

Today's Objective:
Students will study and replicate conventions of everyday dialogue.

Today's SAT Word: Conventions (n)
Rules or norms of behavior

"The conventions of English sentence-writing require punctuation before quotation."

Today's Soundtrack: "Talk" by Coldplay

We have chosen this song today because it focuses on the simple matter of basic human communication. Our easiest way to get our message across to one another is simply to "talk" with one another. For that reason, we'll be examining the conventions of everyday human dialogue -- how to write and punctuate it when we talk back and forth with one another.

Today's Warm-Up Question:

Think about your favorite television shows or movies. They are FILLED with memorable quotes! On a lined sheet of paper in your RRN, write down (and number) your FIVE favorite quotes from your favorite television shows or movies! If you can’t think of five examples – write down your five favorite (classroom appropriate!) song lyrics or sayings that you personally enjoy.

Today's Lesson Notes: (None)

Tonight's Homework: Study for TUESDAY's test! The test will be on Amy Tan's "Two Kinds," as well as the CONVENTIONS of basic punctuation, dialogue, and making an argument by using examples from a text. If you review your notes and if you paid attention in class this week, YOU WILL PASS THIS TEST WITH FLYING COLORS!!!
