  1. The significance of the heather birds metaphor at the conclusion of this story would be the comparision of the characters through out the story to other things and objects like when in the story the main character was called a goppfeir by another character in the story

The significance of the heather birds metaphor is that it was something imaginary. A feeling that a old man had in his head. Another thing is that he probably just wanted to joke around.
what I think about a heather bird is that its a big ohhhh bird that dies easy. when I read the old man on the bus tell M.what he ate for breakfest which was the eyebrows all i can do was picture it in myhead

  3. The significance of the heather birds metaphor at the conclusion of this story would be comparing the traits of the bird with the character. The story is about a girl who is trying to fit in by being in an club. She ends up finding out how to be herself. The author descrbed the birds as mythological creatures. So i think the over all idea was to compare their growth or the bird to the growth of the girl.

The significance of the Heather Birds metaphor is comparing Millicent to the Heather birds. They girls who were trying to get initiated in the group were just ordinary birds all flocking together. The day after Millicent had talked to the man on the bus about the mythical creatures she began to think if she wanted to become initiated after all. She thought of how the Heather birds roamed around free and proud. Then she began to think about the sparrows just pale-gray looking all alike like she would be if she joined. She then realized she did not want to be like that in the "exclusive social group", just bored of life and her best friend wasn't going to be in the group either. At the end of the story Sylvia Plath compared her to the Heather birds saying that now that she turned down the sorority invitation she would now be free just like the Heather birds are.

I think the man ment that he likes the people who do things on there own. Not worrying about what the people think about her. Or thinking that if she gets with this gang that its going to change peoples perception of her. She going to be the same person wether shes in the gang or not. thats why i believe the man said that to make her understand that you dont need to be in this certain gang to be cool because you can be cool on your own.

  6. The significance of the heather birds is a metaphor because it is comparing a bird to a character. It represents the uniqueness unlike the sparrows which are all the same. Millicent wanted to be free just like the Heather Birds were

the significance of heather bird's metaphor is that its supposed to be comparing a bird to a character or trying to put an image in your head of what something like that might look like.its really the character's personality that tells it all.

The significance of the heather birds was it was comparing how he felt about her and the question she asked because not everybody goes around asking "what did you have for breakfast?" especially if you dont know the person and it was crazy of her to do it and he realized it.

The significance of the heather birds was imaginary because it compares a b bird to a character. The story was actually about a girl that was trying to be a cool kid.She was trying to be a popular kid ,so she would do anything to achieve that goal, even by being disrespected. The day after Millicent talked to the man on the bus,she was rethinking about if she still wanted to be incincatied. And after all of that she started to want to be free just like the heather birds, and not follow them girls.

The significance of the heather birds metaphor at the conclusion of this story is all about comparing the heather birds with one of the characters. It is all about how Millicent want to be different and free as the birds and not with the other girls.

  14. I think the significance of the Hether Birds refrence that the old man used was that the main character should be able to be unique and not feel obligated to embarrass herself just to be in a social group .
